In this visually stimulating programme, students will meet and learn from four leading internationally recognised artists working in different areas and hear how ideas become art. Conflict and crisis through the photographer's lens Simon Norfolk, Photographer

Simon Norfolk’s work has been widely recognised and won multiple awards. He uses the lens to explore life’s big questions, including the effect of conflict on both the physical and natural environment as well as on people and societies. He will talk about how he works, the challenges, the techniques and the rewards.

Simon Norfolk is an award-winning documentary photographer who often captures moments of war or crisis. His works have been collected by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Tate Modern in London.

Portrait art Stuart Pearson Wright, Artist

In a superbly entertaining and insightful session, Stuart Pearson Wright will explore his work and his method. Students will learn about the techniques, processes and inspiration behind his paintings and will be able to ask their own questions.

About Stuart Pearson Wright

Stuart Pearson Wright is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading portrait artists.  He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London during which time he won the National Portrait Gallery’s BP travel award.  In 2001 he went on to win first prize in the BP Portrait Awards for his painting ‘Gallus gallus with Still Life and Presidents’. The National Portrait Gallery subsequently acquired his portraits of John Hurt, Adam Cooper and J K Rowling and since then his paintings have been exhibited across the globe. His work has recently extended to include film, sculpture and music.

Zandra Rhodes has designed for clients including Diana, Princess of Wales, Jackie Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor and Freddie Mercury.  She was one of the new wave of designers who put London at the cutting edge of international fashion five decades ago, and her dramatic, glamorous and extrovert designs have inspired the fashion world ever since.  She will discuss the world in which she works,  the fabric and colour choices she makes and how she manages to be original with every design.
